This spotlight is on our Chapter Secretary, Debbi Levin.  Debbi was nominated for and won the IIBA Western Region Volunteer of the Year of 2021, quite a great honor!  Debbi has been a member of our Chapter for several years and worn many hats even within her current role, as Chapter historian, keeper of records, Chapter ambassador, and the key driver to get our Bylaws and Strategic and Business Plans updated.  Here is some discussion with Debbi…she likes to keep it short and sweet!

Q: Debbi, how did you first hear about the IIBA? 

Debbi: I was researching business analysis to learn about it and found I could get good information out of being a member.

Q: How long were you a member of our Chapter before you became an officer? 

Debbi: About three years.

Q: Have you held other positions or done any volunteer work for the Chapter previously? 

Debbi: No.

Q: What are some of the things you do as part of the Chapter that some people might not know about?

Debbi:  I think being a board member is what you make of the position. Being a secretary is in many cases just writing meeting minutes. The other things I do really have nothing to do with my board position, like attending as many regional calls as possible. It's really about making the chapter something people want to attend and join. 

Q: What are some of the most satisfying parts of your position and being part of the Chapter? 

Debbi: Learning and growing my skillset and helping the chapter be something to be proud to be a member of.

Q: Are there any skills you have developed by being in the Chapter that have helped you at work or elsewhere?

Debbi: Note taking and listening. Not really anything else at this time. The groups I support haven’t been interested in or it hasn’t fit into what they have needed from me until recently.

Q: What advice would you give someone considering volunteering for the Chapter? 

Debbi: Do it, you never know where it will lead. I’ve learned strategic planning, writing a business plan, new techniques, and running a business. I’ve met people from all around the world that have similar interests.
