Overview of Presentation
Data is everywhere. Whether it is big data or small data, qualitative data or quantitative data. mixed data. In today’s world of data overload and misinformation, data- and map-literacy are essential skills for effective leadership and an informed responsible organizations. Maps and infographics are representations of data, and the stories they tell are all designed. In fact, every map and infographic conveys a loaded story. During this workshop, we will explore the basics of using data in maps and infographics to tell visually impactful stories.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore the landscape of data and introduce a framework for examining maps and infographics.
  • Probe the elements that make infographics work (or not) using real-world examples
  • Introduce techniques you can use to find the story you'd like to tell for your own organization or project
  • Examine bias and agendas in infographics and maps

Speaker Bio:

Anca Castillo is a (CO)Founder & Master Facilitator of a women founded and led boutique consulting and training organization: DesignConvo. For the past 5 years at Arizona State University, she has has crafted and tested a unique conversation design tool focused actional impact and change by using the collective wisdom of the group to solve complex challenges and opportunities. As a Storytelling Facilitator and Executive Coach, she has focused on workforce transformation and leadership development by providing executive storytelling workshops. Storytelling has been found critical to a leader's ability to communicate ideas, gain buy in, and influence people to ACT! She has been facilitated 100+ design/strategy/story sessions and trained over 400+ people to become facilitators and storytellers.
